Chambers Island Light

Lighthouse · Door County, Wisconsin

Chambers Island Light is a lighthouse in Door County, Wisconsin. Wisconsin has 54 lighthouses on record at Wayfarrow, 16 of them in Door County.

It was built in 1868, in the Civil War era, making it the 7th oldest of the 36 in Wisconsin with a recorded construction date; its light sits 98 feet above the water; the light characteristic is recorded as Fl W 6s (a white flash every 6 seconds), with a range of about 10 nautical miles; it guards Lake Michigan; it was deactivated in 1961; the structure is built of brick.

Status check, 2026-11: The 1868 brick tower and keeper's house still stand, but the light was shut off in 1961, its lantern was removed and an automated light on a metal skeleton tower nearby replaced it; I left the height blank because sources disagree (67 ft to the lantern center in the USLHS/Wikipedia figures vs. 44 ft 9 in to the ventilator ball in the 1909 report). Chambers Island Light is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It stands at 45.2025° N, 87.3647° W.
